One day we would live in a global village, technology would connect people from everywhere.

Oxymoron, global is big but village is small. Can connect like they were in the same village. Connect with others with same interests.

However, he also said if we are interconnected with each other, we have a tribal mentality with an in and out group, you scrutinise people and become part of a club, leads to bullying and exclusion, can discriminate. Social media also does this.

Advantages of living in a global village:

Fandom theory

Can communicate with others from the other side of the world

Can make money easier because more followers for influencers

Different people can collaborate across the world on media products

Can have debates and learn about other opinions



Disadvantages of living in a global village:

Bullying

Fake news, moral panics

Scams and fraud

political disagreements

Fixating on other peoples opinions- Trolling, cyberbullying

Grooming, children can access all services



This advantages and disadvantages: 

Rich people, big companies because they can reach more audiences

cancel culture like for celebs

The poor, those who can't afford it or doesn't exist- Digital divide of technology rich and poor countries


Web Utopianism- The idea that the internet is great, brought a free society, debate, everyone is nice, making money, democratic, decentralised.

Social Media Advertising Campaigns and questions 1-3

 Arianna Grande advertised her R.E.M. perfume across YouTube, Instagram and Facebook. The perfume was very hyped; she modelled the bottle to look like crystals and she took inspiration from her "Break Free" song and music video collab with Zedd.  Here you can see that the 12th November 2020 is the date this advertisement was released. In the video, Ariana Grande is a superhero, she has to save the planet and her dog from the evil robot. This reaches her target audience of teenage girls and younger women aged 13-25 since this video is animated, the colour scheme includes lots of purples, pinks and whites and the storyline is interesting to them.      Here you can see the advertising campaign is on for about a week. She did a photoshoot for the R.E.M. perfume and posted the graphic design work on her Facebook and Instagram.  Alka Marwaha (2009) watching TV is increasingly being integrated with social networking, via screens such as the smart TV, smart phones, tablets and laptops. This allows people to watch TV, film and online videos and chat about them together regardless of their geographic location. TV is more like secondary media now. Thoughts online when watching tv show.
